Zenovay uses pay-as-you-go (PAYG) pricing for usage that exceeds your plan's free event quotas. Every paid plan includes a generous allocation of free website events, API requests, and proxy events each billing cycle. Once you exceed those quotas, overage charges apply per 100,000 additional events. Pro plans pay standard rates ($12 per 100K website events, $15 per 100K API requests, $10 per 100K proxy events), Scale plans receive a 20% discount on all overage rates, and Enterprise plans receive a 50% discount. Free plans do not include PAYG — tracking stops at 10,000 events. You can monitor your usage in real time from Settings, set spending caps, and configure alerts at custom thresholds to avoid unexpected charges.
How PAYG Works
Pro PlanPay-as-you-go pricing ensures you never lose data due to traffic spikes:
- Use your free quota — Each billing cycle, your plan includes a set number of free events across three categories: website events, API requests, and proxy events.
- Exceed the quota — When your usage passes the free allocation, overage billing activates automatically (if enabled).
- Pay per 100K events — Overage is calculated in units of 100,000 events, prorated for partial units.
- Billed at cycle end — Overage charges appear as a separate line item on your regular invoice at the end of your billing cycle.
PAYG is only available on Pro, Scale, and Enterprise plans. Free plan tracking stops at 10,000 events per month.
Free Event Quotas
Every paid plan includes free events before any overage charges apply:
| Plan | Free Website Events | Free API Requests | Free Proxy Events |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 10,000 | — | — |
| Pro | 100,000 | 50,000 | 100,000 |
| Scale | 1,000,000 | 500,000 | 1,000,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom |
What Counts as an Event
| Event Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Website Event | Page views, custom events, goal completions, session starts |
| API Request | Calls to the Zenovay API (analytics queries, MCP tool calls) |
| Proxy Event | First-party tracking requests routed through your domain proxy |
Overage Rates
When you exceed your free quota, overage is charged per 100,000 events:
| Plan | Website Events (per 100K) | API Requests (per 100K) | Proxy Events (per 100K) | Discount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $12 | $15 | $10 | — |
| Scale | $10 | $12 | $8 | 20% off |
| Enterprise | $6 | $7.50 | $5 | 50% off |
Example Calculations
Pro Plan — Website Event Overage:
- Free quota: 100,000 website events
- Actual usage: 250,000 website events
- Overage: 150,000 events (1.5 units of 100K)
- Overage charge: 1.5 x $12 = $18.00
- Total bill: $20 (plan) + $18 (overage) = $38.00
Scale Plan — API Request Overage:
- Free quota: 500,000 API requests
- Actual usage: 800,000 API requests
- Overage: 300,000 requests (3 units of 100K)
- Overage charge: 3 x $12 = $36.00
- Total bill: $90 (plan) + $36 (overage) = $126.00
Scale Plan — Mixed Overage:
- Website events: 1,200,000 (200K over quota) = 2 x $10 = $20
- API requests: 600,000 (100K over quota) = 1 x $12 = $12
- Proxy events: 900,000 (within quota) = $0
- Total overage: $32.00
Monitoring Your Usage
Open Usage Dashboard
Navigate to Settings, then Billing, then click the "Usage" tab to view your current period statistics.
Review Usage Breakdown
Check usage across all three event types: website events, API requests, and proxy events. Each shows current count, quota limit, and percentage used.
Set Up Usage Alerts
Go to Settings, then Billing, then Usage Alerts. Enable alerts at 50%, 75%, and 90% thresholds. Add team member emails to receive notifications.
Configure Spending Caps
Under Overage Settings, enable a spending cap to set a maximum overage amount per billing cycle. Tracking pauses when the cap is reached.
Review Projections
Check the end-of-month projection to see if you are on track to exceed your quotas. Use this to decide whether to upgrade or adjust your spending cap.
API Usage Check
You can also check usage programmatically:
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \

Choosing the Right Plan
Use overage costs to determine when upgrading makes sense:
| Monthly Website Events | Best Option | Estimated Monthly Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Under 100K | Pro (within quota) | $20 |
| 100K - 300K | Pro + PAYG overage | $20 + $12-24 |
| 300K - 600K | Pro + PAYG overage | $20 + $24-60 |
| 600K+ | Upgrade to Scale | $90 (with 1M free) |
| 1M - 2M | Scale + PAYG overage | $90 + $10-100 |
| 2M+ | Contact Enterprise | Custom pricing |
Rule of thumb: If you consistently pay more than $50/month in Pro overage, upgrading to Scale saves money.
FAQ
How is PAYG overage calculated?
Overage is calculated per 100,000 events for each event type (website, API, proxy) independently. Partial units are prorated — if you use 150,000 events over quota, you pay for 1.5 units.
When do PAYG overage charges appear on my invoice?
Overage charges are calculated at the end of your billing cycle and appear as separate line items on your regular monthly invoice.
Can I disable PAYG overage billing?
Yes. Go to Settings, then Billing, then Overage Settings and select "Hard Limit." Tracking will stop when you reach your free quota instead of incurring overage charges.
Does the Free plan support PAYG?
No. Free plans use a hard limit of 10,000 events per month. Upgrade to Pro or higher to enable pay-as-you-go overage billing.
Do unused free events roll over to the next month?
No. Free event quotas reset at the start of each billing cycle. Unused events do not carry over.
What happens if I hit my spending cap?
Tracking pauses for the remainder of the billing cycle, similar to a hard limit. Your existing data is preserved. You can raise the cap or upgrade your plan to resume tracking.
Are overage rates the same for all event types?
No. Website events, API requests, and proxy events each have different per-100K rates. API requests are the most expensive, and proxy events are the least expensive.
