This is the practical "click path" for handing your team to another person. For the conceptual overview, see Transferring Team Ownership.

Pre-conditions

Before you start, verify all of the following. The transfer button stays disabled until they're satisfied.

  • The new owner is already a member of the team. Invite them first if they aren't.
  • The new owner has verified their email and signed in at least once.
  • You (the current owner) have an active session and access to the email on file (you'll receive a confirmation email).
  • If your team is on a paid plan, the new owner must agree to take over billing — you should confirm this with them out of band.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Settings > Team in your Zenovay dashboard.
  2. Find the member you want to promote and click their name to open their profile.
  3. Click Transfer ownership at the bottom of the panel.
  4. Confirm by typing the team name and your password.
  5. Both you and the new owner receive a confirmation email.

Post-conditions

Right after the transfer:

  • The old owner is demoted to Admin automatically (you keep full product access except billing and team deletion).
  • The new owner gets billing access — they can update the payment method, change plan, and view invoices.
  • All API keys, integrations, and webhooks continue to work without interruption.
  • An entry is added to the team audit log noting the transfer.

Stripe billing implications

The Stripe customer record is tied to the team, not the individual user. Transferring ownership does not move the subscription to a different customer ID, so:

  • Existing invoices and payment history stay attached to the team.
  • The new owner can update the card on file from Settings > Billing.
  • If the old card belonged to the previous owner personally, ask them to delete it after the new owner has added theirs.
  • The next renewal charges whichever payment method is active on the day of renewal.

If you need to leave the team entirely, transfer ownership first, then remove yourself from the Members list. You cannot remove yourself while you're still the owner.
